Bennett And Noom Claim World Open Wildcards

Dutch duo Dylan Bennett and Orla Noom secured places in the main draw of the World Open Squash 2011, which starts later this month in Rotterdam.

27-year old Bennett beat Rene Mijs and Piedro Schweertman, both in straight games, en route to winning the World Open Wildcard Play-Offs, a qualifying competition which was introduced to determine which Dutch players would join compatriots Laurens Jan Anjema and Natalie Grinham in the main draw of the biggest squash championship ever, featuring 188 players (112 men and 72 women) from all over the world and a record prize fund of $418,000 USD.

At the same time 25-year old Noom also showed that she is still the number two Dutch women’s player by defeating Milja Dorenbos (3-1) and Milou van der Heijden (3-0) to gain direct entry with a wildcard into the WISPA World Open draw.

The draws for the World Open Squash 2011 will be revealed on Monday October 10th by the city’s major Ahmed Aboutaleb and the best Dutch player of all time Vanessa Atkinson during a special press conference in Rotterdam, the Dutch city of Sports.

The first six days (28 Oct – 02 Nov) of the prestigious squash championship in the Netherlands will take place at Victoria Squash, the final stages (03-06 Nov) will be played on a full ASB Glass Court on the podium of the stunning New Luxor Theatre in Rotterdam.
